The Bentway Conservancy is an organization that maintains and programs the Bentway, a unique public space developed underneath a stretch of the Gardiner Expressway. In addition to funding and support from a collection of public agencies, private firms and philanthropic donors, the Bentway Conservancy was also incubated at Artscape. Artscape’s specialized experience with developing and managing cultural and creative spaces was leveraged to help get the Conservancy up and running, through the development of frameworks for HR, finance, board development, governance, incorporation, government relations, and communications.

“Already, it seems like the kind of place it will feel magical to encounter on a summer evening when there’s music playing and lanterns hanging and people sprawl across the grounds. Already, as of Saturday, it is a place to go for a skate on a winter afternoon. A new neighbourhood amenity for thousands and a prominent destination for the whole city.”
